Crowder: Henne Still Has a Lot to Prove

Former Dolphin has not lost his zeal for controversy in retirement

He may not be a Miami Dolphin anymore, but Channing Crowder still has plenty to say when it comes to the team that released him last month.

Crowder criticized Dolphins QB Chad Henne on Tuesday morning, saying he lacks the winning qualities of the elite signal-callers like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

It sounds like Crowder is transitioning into his retirement smoothly, he has just as much confidence in him as the rest of South Florida does, which is to say none whatsoever.

"I played with him a couple years," Crowder said on 560 WQAM's The Joe Rose Show, "He really hasn't proven anything to me when I played with him and now being on this side, looking down on him as a fan, he's not impressing me, either."

Though Henne "has all the tangibles" like arm strength and conditioning, he doesn't particularly inspire confidence with regards to his ability to take a game into his own hands in crunch time.

"The intangibles, the winning the game, wanting to have everything on his shoulders, like the Bradys and like the Mannings, and wanting to be down by five with a minute left on the 20-yard-line, let's see what happens, he doesn't have that in his heart yet," Crowder said.

"I think it will be hard for him to win," he continued, though he did acknowledge "if he comes out this year and going crazy, I'll have my foot in my mouth." Regardless, "if I was a betting man, I wouldn't bet on him going crazy."

Crowder also backed off somewhat from his previous vow to retire from football, saying he will probably try to make a comeback "next year, two years at most. Probably next year. See if we have any attention, try to get an offer."

But for the time being, "I'm out this year."
