Dolphins Practice Turns Into Treasure Hunt

Kendall Langford lost a 2.5 carat earing during practice

The Mimai Dolphins coaching staff are searching the roster for a diamond in the rough.

On Tuesday, several Dolphins players were looking for a diamond in the grass.

Crawling on all fours, several defensive players picked through the grass at the Davie practice facility looking for defensive end Kendall Langford's 2.5 carat diamond earring that fell out during practice. Langford said he forgot he had his icy pieces in when he put his helmet on for practice.

At least nine teammates helped. Some were on hands and knees, and a couple used rakes to comb through the turf. They had a lot of ground to cover, because the Dolphins practice on two fields.

"I've got a great group of guys out here helping me -- family-type guys," Langford said.

The earring, which could cost $50,000, still hasn't been found. Players had to abandon the search to get back to football duties and so the grounds crew could get to their lawn cutting duties.

Not to worry, the size of the diamond should stop the blades on any of the lawnmowers.

If not, Langford has learned a valuable lesson: earrings don't make good football equipment.
