Dolphins Need More From First-Team Offense In Jacksonville

Let's try for more than 19 yards out of the first team, shall we?

Last week's sluggish Dolphins offense wasn't all the fault of the mud. The first team offense notched 19 yards on account of penalties, but even discounting a jumpy offensive line, Chad Henne & Co. notched a grand total of 39 yards.

That's just 2.6 yards on 15 plays, complete with three dropped passes. It's not time to panic, though you'll never convince some Dolphins fans -- but it is time to see some improvement tonight at 7:30 in Jacksonville.

Tony Sparano evidently agrees, having suggested Thursday that Chad Henne will see an entire half of playing time tonight against the Jaguars. As much as the Dolphins need to continue evaluating the bubble boys, they've also got to get their first team rolling in time for game 1 against the Bills.

Efficient, effective, on the move? That would be nice. And if it can't happen in EverBank field, the AFC slog is gonna be loooong.

Tonight it may be tough, what with the offensive line playing the role of ducks in a county fair shoot-'em-out. The Dolphins were just forced to sign guard Randy Thomas on account of needing more giant bodies, and at 34 he's got one knee in the grave. Jake Grove and John Jerry are nursing injuries, and it's not even September. So, yeah, good luck with that, Hennekins.

One particular player to watch is receiver Marlon Moore, who's captured the hearts of Miami fans with a solid underdog performance in last week's opener. He loses any tiebreaker for the fifth slot to Fins draftee Patrick Turner, but everyone loves a scrappy long shot -- especially when they catch more passes than Brandon Marshall.
