Dolphins Star in New Soap Opera: Vince Young and the Restless

The Dolphins next coach and franchise quarterback could be within their grasp

The Miami Dolphins have become the NFL's version of a really bad reality show, or better yet, a melodramatic soap opera.

The plot has been the same for more than a decade, but no one can seem to find the solution and with each episode, the promise of a cure keeps fans tuning in.

And so the offseason for the Dolphins has played out according to form.

Miami needs a coach and a quarterback the way Susan Lucci needed a Daytime Emmy. So as owner Stephen Ross jet sets off to the West Coast to woo the hot young stud on the coaching block, Jim Harbaugh, another subplot has surfaced thanks to the Tennessee Titans.

Vince Young, the troubled QB still young enough not to be entering his prime, is set to be released by the Titans after five seasons in which all he did was win when he played.

Sure there was the suicidal episode, the shoulder pad tossing and the quitting, but that shouldn't deter the Dolphins, who have welcomed back their share of quitters in the past.

Young is an instant upgrade to Miami's current quarterback situation and unlike other potential QB options already in the league, he hasn't been recycled so many times that a warning label is attached to his helmet.

At 27, Young has already accomplished more than any other Dolphins QB since Dan Marino. He's been to the Pro Bowl twice and has amassed a 30-17 record as a starter and taken his team to the playoffs. And he is only going to get better.

And the Dolphins options are limited. What's on the roster won't cut it and the No. 15 pick in the draft likely won't yield a franchise quarterback.

If ever there was a long term solution to a long-standing problem, Young could be it for the Dolphins.

As for the restless, dead head coach walking Tony Sparano, he's probably cowering in a corner in his South Florida home with the television and cell phone on off. Ross has essentially told Sparano through the media and his actions that his coach isn't good enough and that he'd rather throw loads of money at an unproven commodity than suffer through another season of mediocrity.

Ross is reportedly going to place a blank check on Harbaugh's kitchen table and ask the Stanford coach to fill in the blanks. From what we hear, it might be an oversized check to make sure all the zeros fit.

At the end of today's episode, likely nothing will be finalized and uncertainty will be the taste left in fans' mouths as they wonder what's going on.

Guess we'll just have to stay tuned.
