Dolphins Show Tebow Love With Gator Reunion

Dolphins to turn Oct. 23 game against Denver into the Tebow show

There are two ways to look at the Miami Dolphins holding a Florida Gators reunion when Tim Tebow comes to town - stupid or extremely stupid.

Dolphins GM Mike Dee announced during Saturday's game against Tampa Bay that a "reunion" of the Gators 2009 National Championship team will be held at Sun Life Stadium on Oct. 23 when Miami plays the Denver Broncos.

Holding back the vomit in your throat for just a moment, just think about how the players on the Dolphins will feel.

Aside from Mike Pouncey, Miami has no other players from that Gators team or any other UF grads and Dolphins fans weren't necessarily thrilled when Pouncey was drafted in April.

Beyond that, the reunion sets a pretty disturbing precedent for opposing teams who are supposed to feel uncomfortable in enemy territory.

With Reggie Bush now on the team, why not have a USC Trojan barbecue at halftime when the hated New York Jets come to town with Mark Sanchez?

Or how about when Oakland visits, Miami can host a Terrelle Pryor tribute with Dolphins linebacker Austin Pitler and defensive end Robert Rose (both Ohio State grads) doing an interpretive dance during pre-game.

For the record, the college with the most players on the Dolphins roster is Penn State with five.

And then there is the fact that a certain beloved, scandal-ridden college football team actually plays its home games in Sun Life and is a rival of the Gators.

Not that the Dolphins would want to please the home fans or anything, but setting up a scenario where UF fans are invited to essentially be the guests of honor in the Miami Hurricanes' backyard seems like a recipe for calling in the National Guard.

Dee defended the promotion Monday by saying what didn't really need to be said: the idea was a money grab to get the UF fan base to buy tickets to a home game that won't sell out.

That's just the extremely stupid scenario.

The stupid scenario might actually be worse for Dolfans. Miami could be secretly in love with Tebow and this could be a veiled recruiting attempt.

There have been rumblings that Tebow could fall to third on the Denver depth chart and some have even opined that the Broncos should release their former first-round pick.

What better place to land than Miami, where the quarterback situation isn't already a big enough mess. Why not add the most polarizing emergency quarterback in the history of the league?

The Phins are also flying in former UF coach Urban Meyer for the reunion. Head coach Tony Sparano might want to spruce up that resume because has to remember the last time the Dolphins courted to a college coach.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has never seen a publicity ploy he didn't like, so selling Miami fans out to get Gator bucks in the seats isn't such a surprise.

One thing is for sure. The Oct. 23 game might be the most attended match up between mediocre teams this season.
