Ex-Giants Lineman Luke Petitgout Charged With Sexual Assault

Former New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Luke Petitgout has been charged with assault and sexual assault in New Jersey.

Petitgout's attorney, Patrick J. Jennings, said Tuesday the allegations are baseless and he intends to vigorously defend the former offensive lineman.

Petitgout was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County jail. Jennings said Tuesday he expected him to be released soon.

The charges were filed in Pascack Joint Municipal Court on Tuesday. Prosecutors didn't immediately respond to an email seeking details of the alleged crimes.

Petitgout had a misdemeanor harassment case against him dropped in New York last year after his wife accused him of hitting her.

Petitgout played college football at Notre Dame and spent eight seasons with the Giants and was on the team's Super-Bowl winning team in 2007 but was out for most of the year with a broken leg. He was released by the team later that year and played a final season with the Buccaneers.
