Hand Walks Six as Marlins Fall to Nats

Brad Hand struggled with his command on Saturday as the Marlins lost 5-2

The Miami Marlins were once again unable to play the role of spoiler as the Washington Nationals won Sunday's game 5-2.

Brad Hand did Miami no favors as he walked six in only 4.2 innings. The lefty has been battling control issues as of late, and is in danger of losing his roster spot in 2016. Hand has seen his E.R.A rise to 5.34, and is now 4-7 on the year.

Miami was looking to put a dent in Washington's playoff hopes. The Nationals trail the New York Mets by seven games now with three remaining between the two clubs. The Marlins had an opportunity in the last two days to knock the Nats out. Washington will instead get a chance to take three of four in Sunday's finale.

After Hand exited, things didn't get much better for Miami's pitching staff. Kyle Barraclough gave up a two-run home run to Bryce Harper. That widened the gap to three runs, which ultimately put it out of reach.

Miami would try to rally in the top of the ninth as the first two hitters reached. Nationals' closer Jonathan Papelbon was able to wiggle himself out of the jam however to seal the victory for his team.

Miami's only two runs of the game came in the first inning when Christian Yelich and Justin Bour each brought home one run.

The Marlins will turn to Justin Nicolino on Sunday in an attempt to split the four-game series before heading home.
