Heat: Beasley Punched Himself During Preseason Game

Michael Beasley needed steel compresses after the game due to self-inflicted blows to the head

Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley had a productive night on Thursday, scoring 9 points with two rebounds in five minutes of playing time during the Heat's preseason win over the Detroit Pistons. But he also gave himself a bit of a self-inflicted wound.

According to the Miami Herald, Beasley needed treatment from the Heat's trainer after the game because he punched himself on the head a little too vigorously at one point during the game.

On the play (which can be viewed on YouTube), Beasley was called for travelling before attempting a shot. As he walked up the court to get on defense, he could be seen punching his temple with his right fist.

The Herald reported that Beasley's head required steel compresses after the game. He was clearly trying to make a good impression in his first minutes of the preseason, making a variety of hustle plays in addition to the scoring, but might have overdone it a little bit.

After the game, Beasley told the Sun Sentinel, "Overall, I give myself a B-minus, C-plus. I'm just trying to teach myself to do everything hard."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra praised Beasley after the game. "He's been making good progress since he joined us," he said.

Beasley is no lock to make the Heat's regular season roster. He signed a non-guaranteed deal this summer, so the team is under no obligation to carry him on the roster and pay his salary. He is one of the many wing players looking for minutes behind starter Shane Battier and backups James Jones and Rashard Lewis.
