Hurricanes To Take Part in Independence Bowl

The Hurricanes will take on South Carolina on December 27th in the Independence Bowl

The Miami Hurricanes will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl on December 27th.

The 2014 regular season was a disappointment for the Hurricanes with a 6-6 record. They qualified for a bowl due to the six wins but the season ended with three straight losses. A loss in this one would result in a losing year, something that UM has not experienced since 2007.

South Carolina finished with a 6-6 record as well while playing in the Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks lost their last game of the season but won the two prior to that. Perhaps the biggest one of the year for South Carolina came in their third game of the year when they beat the Georgia Bulldogs. At the time the Bulldogs were ranked sixth.

UM played in a bowl game to end last season as well in the Russell Athletic Bowl where the school was annihilated. The Louisville Cardinals won that game easily 36-9. The loss ended what had been a successful regular season for the Hurricanes where they went 9-3.

Miami has not won a bowl game since the MPC Computers Bowl following the 2006 regular season. The Hurricanes came away with a 21-20 win on that day over the Nevada Wolf Pack. That was the last game coached by Larry Coker who had actually been fired prior to the game.

It has been a long time since these Miami and South Carolina matched up. The last time came all the way back in 1987. In that contest, the Hurricanes came away victorious over the Gamecocks.

The Duck Commander Independence Bowl will take place at 3:30 p.m.
