Isiah Thomas Will Now Kill Two Teams At Once

You were so close, FIU. So close to being free.

NBA legend and second-year FIU men's basketball coach Isiah Thomas will remain with the Golden Panthers, but has been hired by the Knicks as a part-time consultant.

Yeah, those Knicks. The Knicks he nearly single-handedly ran into the ground before trying to kill himself and passing off the attempt on his teenaged daughter.

Thomas was rehired Friday by the team as a consultant, two years after he was fired as its coach and president...

A Hall of Famer with the Detroit Pistons, [Thomas] had a dismal run as team president from December 2003-April 2008, with the Knicks never winning a postseason game despite often having the league's highest payroll.

He was also the coach the final two seasons, getting dismissed after a 23-59 season in 2007-08.

Despite all that, plus that lawsuit brought by former team employee Anucha Browne Sanders that cost Madison Square Garden $11.6 million, Thomas has remained close to [chairman James] Dolan and [team president Donnie] Walsh, even while coaching Florida International University.

Oh, Florida International. You were so close to freedom.

As for those Golden Panthers, who we can only assume signed off on such a thing, the move makes sense only in some sort of glam-by-leage-association sense that could come in handy with recruiting.

For the Knicks, it makes absolutely zero sense at all. The knock on Isiah Thomas as a company man is, well, everything; the one asset people point to is his ability to spot talent. But that's easily called into question, so what's going on here?

Honestly, this move is so bizarre on the part of the Knicks that what makes most sense is this: Pat Riley has extended his mind control abilities over Isiah Thomas and Knicks management, and from his not-evil Castle Grayskull he has sent Isiah Thomas to destroy an opposing franchise.

It's science. We can only assume he's starting small, and the Lakers are next.
