Practice Jersey Injury Shelves Heat's Sixth Man Indefinitely

Mike miller injured his right thumb in practice Wednesday

The only thing that could stop the Miami Heat is stopping the Miami Heat.

The injury bug.

Now the Heat's top three-point threat, Mike Miller, is going on the shelf after a freak injury in practice Wednesday. He injured his thumb on his shooting hand after it got stuck in a teammate's jersey, reports the Miami Herald.

With Dwyane Wade already on the mend and LeBron James suffering a minor setback already this preseason, Miller's news should be pretty alarming to Heat fans.

And don't look to Udonis Haslem to calm your fears.

"They say it's not season-ending," Haslem said of his former college teammate.

It's pretty cryptic when a player goes to an extreme to describe the significance of an injury. Maybe there is something to this Cleveland curse after all.

Miller was supposed to be the main compliment to the Three Kings of Wade, James and Chris Bosh. His versatility would have allowed the Heat to play him in tandem with any of the star players and even have him on the floor as the main scoring threat at times.

Without Miller, the Heat will turn to Eddie House to provide a consistent three-point spark, but House doesn't provide the size, athleticism or defense that Miller does.

Miami has little time to tinker with its line up. Their first game is next Tuesday versus the defending Eastern Conference Champions, the Boston Celtics.
