"What if I told you Manny Ramirez was definitely coming back. Then would you buy season tickets? Great."

As the saying goes, where there's smoke, there's fire. And judging by the amount of it coming from the Dodgers' camp regarding rumors of a deal to bring back Manny Ramirez, you'd have to think that something big is on the horizon.

But at least for now, the Dodgers are saying that there isn't.

For the second straight day, on Tuesday Ned Collettidenied rumors that anything was imminent in terms of a deal with Manny Ramirez. The source of the latest information? A season ticket sales rep for the Dodgers, who decided to leave a voicemail for one of his prospective buyers with the enticing information.

The latest [rumor] was triggered by a Dodgers ticket sales representative who left a voicemail recording for a potential season-ticket buyer, providing "inside info" that the Dodgers "are on the verge of signing" Ramirez.

The recording was quickly posted on the Internet and the sales rep had more phone calls than he ever wanted to handle.

Club officials insisted the rep was acting on his own, that there has been no agreement with Ramirez and nobody in the sales department had been instructed to say there was.

We all know that there are sales people will tell you anything you want to hear to close a deal, so it's not surprising that this one would use the lure of a possible Manny signing to try to sell some extra tickets.

On the other hand, this is someone who works inside the Dodgers' offices, and a sports franchise is no different than any other workplace when it comes to gossip and/or keeping secrets.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. And at this point, it seems like it's more of a question of "when" Ramirez will join the Dodgers than "if."
