Marlins' Bullpen Fails Against Rays

Injury-plaqued bullpen showing its weaknesses

The Marlins bullpen fell apart against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday night at Tropicana Field, giving up two walks, a wild pitch and a two-out double in the eighth inning that broke a 3-3 tie.

The Rays ended up winning 7-3, putting a halt to the Marlins’ five-game winning streak.

Left-hand reliever Renyel Pinto gave up two walks. Right-hand reliever Brian Sanches threw the wild pitch. Sanches also loaded the bases with a walk and gave up a bases-loaded double.

Pinto and Sanches have been playing in place of relievers Kiko Calero and Leo Nunez, who are both injured.
Closer Matt Lindstrom is also on the disabled list.

Hanley Ramirez did all he could to keep the Marlins in the game by hitting his 12th homerun of the season; a solo shot in the seventh inning that tied the game. It was his fourth homerun in the last five games.
