The Miami Marlins began a series against the Cincinnati Reds with a 6-3 win on Monday at Great American Ball Park.

Miami held a 4-1 lead until the sixth inning and that is when things became dicey. The Marlins saw their bullpen allow two runs over the next two inning. The Reds were close to not only tying the game, but jumping out to a lead. Some clutch pitching from Dustin McGowan bailed Miami out.

In the eighth inning, Miami picked up two big runs. Dee Gordon legged out an infield single that plated the two runs for the Marlins. The hit extended Miami's lead from one run to three runs. Gordon also doubled as part of a two-hit day for the lead-off man.

David Phelps was solid again in his thrd start of the season. Phelps allowed two runs in his 5.1 innings of work. One of those runs scored during the poor relief effort in the sixth inning. Hunter Cervenka was on the mound and walked in a run. That came after Brian Ellington loaded the bases in a poor outing.

Marcell Ozuna hit his 20th home run of the season and now has 61 runs batted in as well. Chris Johnson had a big day himself with his fifth homer and tenth double of the year. Johnson knocked in two runs overall and scored an additional run himself.

Martin Prado had three hits including his third triple of the season. The third baseman also knocked in a run along the way.

The Marlins have not announced a starter for Tuesday's game yet, but it is expected to be Jose Urena.
