Marlins Place Henderson Alvarez on Disabled List

The Miami Marlins were already down one ace pitcher with Jose Fernandez out after Tommy John surgery. The team’s current ace is now also out after Henderson Alvarez was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The official cause of Alvarez’s placement on the disabled list was inflammation of the right shoulder.

This season, Alvarez has posted an 8-5 record with a 2.48 ERA. His ERA is good enough for fourth best in the majors this year. Alvarez’s strikeout to walk rate is 83-27 on the year and he was selected to his first All-Star Game earlier this season.

With Alvarez out, the pressure will increase on Nathan Eovaldi, Jacob Turner, Brad Hand, and Tom Koehler to try to carry the load until Alvarez returns.
