Marlins Strike Out 13 Times in Loss to Indians

The Marlins were dominated by Carlos Carrasco in their 6-2 loss on Friday

The Miami Marlins struck out 13 times in their 6-2 loss to Carlos Carrasco and the Cleveland Indians on Friday.

Carrasco started for Cleveland and dominated Miami from the start. The Marlins had eight hits and two of them came from Destin Hood in his big league debut. Hood also had one of only two extra-base hits for Miami in the loss.

The Marlins were on the wrong end of a questionable call in the first inning. It appeared as if Andrew Cashner had induced a double play with a strike out. However, the thrid base umpire determined that the Cleveland second baseman Jason Kipnis held up his swing. With that call, Kipnis walked and a caught stealing attempt at second base was wiped away.

Cashner had difficulty working around the call and replays made it appear that Kipnis did in fact commit on his swing. The Indians would go on to score three runs in the inning and six overall against Cashner. The right-hander had command problems and allowed six walks in his five innings on the mound.

With Marcell Ozuna expected to miss the entire Cleveland series, Hood was given his first chance to play in a Marlins uniform. The journeyman minor leaguer showed he can play at the game's highest level. Hood's aforementioned extra-base hit was a double, the first of his career.

J.T. Realmuto had a three-hit game which included his eighth home run of the season. Realmuto's homer was a two-run blast and came in the eighth inning.

Jose Fernandez will start for Miami on Saturday as he looks to put his team back in the win column.
