West Virginia Wins First Big East Tournament Title

Team could be a No. 1 seed in NCAA tourney

West Virginia is going dancing -- in a big way.

The West Virginia Mountaineers won their first-ever Big East tournament title Saturday night, beating the Georgetown Hoyas to take home the honor in what has proven to be one of the league's grittiest, most competitive conferences.

WVU hero Da'Sean Butler sunk another late shot to win the game, banking in a 3-pointer to beat the buzzer and seal the Hoyas' fate 60-58.

Butler's shot was his second game-winner in five days for the Mountaineers -- he took Cincinnati to school earlier in the tourney with another end-of-the-line throw.

WVU's win could mean the team is in the running for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament: the school boasts a strong schedule and RPI as well as impressive wins like its two victories against the Hoyas.

Favorite Kansas also took home a title Saturday, winning in the Big 12 finals over rival Kansas State, while the Washington Huskies won the Pac-10 championship and Minnesota upset No. 6 Purdue to advance to the Big Ten tourney semifinals.

The brackets for the NCAA tournament will be announced Sunday.
