DETROIT — Chris Osgood made 30 saves in his return to Detroit's lineup after a four-game break, leading the Stanley Cup champion Red Wings to a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings in Friday's NHL action.
Detroit became the third team this season to reach the 90-point mark, after San Jose and Boston. Derek Meech opened the scoring with 7:52 left in the second period, charging in from the point to put in a rebound off a goal-mouth scramble.
Tomas Kopecky made it 2-0 early in the third period when he beat Kings goalie Jonathan Quick on a one-timer from along the goal line. Kopecky took a short pass after Quick misplayed the puck behind the net.
Alexander Frolov pulled one back for the Kings almost five minutes into the last period, but they could get not draw level. Quick made 39 saves.
Canadiens 4, Flyers 3 OT
In Philadelphia, Mathieu Schneider scored on a power play at 3:21 of overtime to lift Montreal over Philadelphia.
Schneider — recently acquired from Atlanta — scored his seventh goal of the season on a wrist shot from the right circle.
The Flyers outshot the Canadiens 37-31 in regulation, but wasted all eight power-play attempts. Philadelphia, which has the league's best record for converting power plays at home, failed to convert on both its 5-on-3 advantages.
Flames 4, Wild 1
Mike Cammalleri scored his 31st and 32nd goals of the season, and Miikka Kiprusoff made 15 saves.
The Flames, ten points clear atop the Northwest, have earned points in nine games in a row.
Penguins 5, Blackhawks 4, OT
In Chicago, league points leader Evgeni Malkin scored on a power play early in overtime as Pittsburgh escaped with victory after allowing Chicago to force the extra period.
Malkin ripped a one-timer from the right circle with just two seconds of penalty time remaining.
The Blackhawks rebounded from 2-0 and 4-2 deficits to send the game to overtime.
Canucks 2, Lightning 1
In Vancouver, the hosts edged Tampa Bay to go outright fifth in the Western Conference playoff race.
Steve Bernier scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, and the Canucks kept the Lightning winless in Vancouver.
