Marshall Hip to the Curse of No. 19

Marshall says his no. 19 is only temporary -- which is nice, because it's already done enough.

It's here! Organized Training Activities! Veterans and rookies mixing together to do football things!

We are shaking and crying!

The Dolphins held their first OTA of the season this morning, which explains the extra zip in your step you've had all day. Everything's better when football is being played somewhere, and especially here in Miami because it means that horrid offseason's over and your mom can be a whore in peace again. So to speak.

Here's hightlights from Day 1, in short, Pennington-pass-sized nuggets:

* WR Brandon Marshall made his big, expensive, franchise-saving debut on a stationary bicycle on the sidelines. Tony Sparano said Marshall had had "a surgery," a "clean up" -- ESPN later reported it is on his hip, on which he also had surgery last offseason -- and that Marshall may not be able to participate in any OTAs.

But "this isn't his first rodeo," Sparano said, dismissing concern and noting that the Beast was throwing and catching the day of the procedure.

Marshall was joined on the bikes by WR Patrick Turner, NT Jason Ferguson, and LBs Channing Crowder and Reggie Torbor. Sparano said OG Nate Garner, who wasn't visible anywhere, was inside doing rehab.

* Brandon Marshall wore no. 19, though he said he'd have a permanent number by camp. Probably just picked the no. 19 jersey off the locker room floor where Ted Ginn dropped it. You know, because Ted Ginn dropped things.

Gosh, we're gonna miss those jokes.

* Brandon Mars -- just kidding, he only gets two items. This one's about nose tackle Jason Ferguson, who said the banned substance that earned him an eight-game PED suspension next season was a blood pressure pill "to make weight."

"It's my fault being lazy and not checking the [list of banned substances]," Ferguson said. "I didn't know it was on there. [The Dolphins] know it was no steriod."

* Newly aquired linebacker Karlos Dansby had a strip in practice. "The ball kind of finds him," said Sparano. Giggety!

* Position battles raged. At center, Joe Berger took snaps ahead of Jake Grove. At outside linebacker, Quentin Moses and Charlie Anderson got reps above Cameron Wake and Koa Misi. And at corner, veteran Will Allen stood by his earlier claim he'd be starting this fall even as he was limited by rehab and Jason Allen and Even Oglesby were used as backups.

At craft services, Bill Parcells was the entire line.

* Chris Clemons worked as starting free safety. [Sobs quietly into Dolphins snuggie.]

* A limping Ronnie Brown participated in some drills, but was constantly shaking his out his foot after plays. As for that restricted free agent tender, he shrugged. "I haven't signed, but I pretty much have," he told Armando Salguero.

* Pat White had at least one "perfect" throw. Chad Pennington was limited to throws of about five yards, which means he's...back to full strength! (They're so cute, Penny-throws. Like the Marshmallow Peeps of football.)
