Panthers Beat Sabres 4-3 in Shootout

The Panthers forced overtime late and beat the Sabres 4-3 in a shootout on Tuesday

The Florida Panthers forced overtime late and picked up a 4-3 shootout win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.

Florida held a 2-0 advantage until the 15:45 mark of the second period. From that point on, Buffalo cut into the lead and eventually took one itself. The Sabres would score a pair of goals in the second period and another in the third. Florida would tie the game back up late and force overtime. In the shootout, the Panthers ended things quickly.

The win improved Florida's record to 15-13-5 on the season and gave it 35 points. This was a game that the Panthers almost gave away, which makes the win even bigger for the team.

Aleksander Barkov put the Panthers on the board first with his eighth goal of the season. Jason Demers and Jaromir Jagr assisted on the goal that gave Florida an early 1-0 lead.

Keith Yandle would give Florida a 2-0 lead with his goal at the 12:14 mark of the second period. The power play goal was Yandle's second of the season and came with assists from Jagr and Barkov.

Facing a tough loss, Nick Bjugstad tied the game late in the third period with his first goal of the season. Jagr and Barkov both assisted on this goal as well. That score set up the eventual shootout where Vincent Trocheck and Barkov both scored.

Roberto Luongo was in the net for Florida and had 33 saves on 36 chances. Luongo also stopped both attempts sent his way in the shootout.

The Panthers will stay home and host the Boston Bruins on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
