Panthers Get Desperado With Eagles-Sponsored Camp

No one can accuse the Florida Panthers of not being creative.

Friday they launched a campaign to encourage potential hockey fans to name their own season ticket price.

Today, the team announced that they will (believably) host the first ever band/concert sponsorship with a sports team when the Eagles will, um, present, Panthers Training Camp 2010, which runs September 11 through October 10th.

It's proof, said Panthers president and COO Michael Yormark, "that our organization is willing to use all the resources at our disposal to promote concerts, shows and events that visit the Bank Atlantic Center."

See, the Eagles will be performing there on October 8th and the idea is to give the concert some exposure beforehand through a "custom Panthers Training Camp 2010 logo," which, to our dismay, is not a picture of an eagle and a panther battling with light saber hockey sticks, as well as through social media, marketing advertisements, and in-game TV and radio broadcasts.

It's not really clear what the Panthers are getting out of the partnership (other than possibly cold hard cash), as the release doesn't mention a special appearance by Joe Walsh or even a re-naming of the rink to Hotel California, where guests can score complimentary glasses of pink champagne on ice. (Or was that just a cocaine metaphor?")

Regardless, we're kind of excited to see what kind of crazy shenanigans the Panthers have planned next. Three-course dinner in the time out box? A ride to and from the game on the Zamboni? Just like the number of game tickets still available, the possibilities are endless.
