Panthers Held Scoreless in Tampa Bay in Preseason Matchup

The Panthers were beaten by the Lightning in preseason action on Thursday

The Florida Panthers lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning by a final score of 2-0 in preseason action on Thursday.

With the loss, Florida is now 1-2 in the preseason as it begins to prepare for the long regular season. As is the norm in the preseason, the Panthers have not had their top talent on the ice for much of the game action. The preseason is more about getting into game shape and staying healthy.

In net for Florida for the first two periods was James Reimer. It was a solid game for the Panthers' goaltender with 18 saves in 19 chances. Reimer is expected to serve as a backup for Roberto Luongo and play in more than a third of Florida's games this season.

Reto Berra was Florida's goalie for third period and stopped eight of nine shots sent his way. Luongo will likely be back in the net for Florida's next game after playing in one of the two doubleheader contests on Tuesday.

Florida only had 21 shots on goal which was in contrast to the 28 from Tampa Bay. Dryden Hunt led the Panthers with his three SOG and did it in only a little more than ten minutes of ice time.

When it came to power plays Florida was 0-6 on its chances, but did a solid job with penalty kills. The Panthers killed all five of Tampa Bay's power play chances to keep the score close.

The Panthers will be back home on Sunday when they lost the Dallas Stars at 3:00 p.m.
