Protesting Fan Gets Phone Call From Dolphins Owner

"I was a little worried at first," Jason Lawrence said

Jason Lawrence has been a Miami Dolphins season ticket holder for 20 years. The Hollywood man is a diehard fan who used to save his lunch money to pay for his seat at the football games.

Lately, he's been a little frustrated with the Dolphins organization. He was one of many who protested outside the team's training facility last week.

"I wanted to know what was going on with the Dolphins," Lawrence said about why he protested. "I wanted to know if we weren't making moves, why weren't we making them."

Little did Lawrence know, his part in the protest would lead to a phone call from the team's owner, Stephen Ross.

"I was a little worried at first," Lawrence said. "I didn't know what he was calling about, but I got excited and I knew it was my opportunity to talk to the Dolphins organization and find out what they were doing."

Lawrence said they talked about trading Brandon Marshall, not getting Peyton Manning, not going after Tim Tebow, and many other things – but most importantly, he said the 27-minute-long conversation with Ross meant a lot to him. For Ross, it meant the same.

"I'm a passionate fan as they are," Ross said in a press conference. "You really realize someone is passionate when they're going to go out and protest. That's the kind of person I want to talk to."

Now, after his talk with Ross, Lawrence said he feels a lot better – not only about the organization, but with where the team is headed this season.

"It's pretty unprecedented for an owner of a team to call a fan to try to work out their differences," Lawrence said. "He made me feel pretty positive. Before the call I was really down on them, down on our situation, but I really feel like afterward the conversation ended and after the great talk, I felt like the questions were answered for me."
