Pat Perez shot a record 20 under par during the first 36 holes of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament in California.

Pat Perez set a new PGA record by shooting 20 strokes below par over 36 holes at the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament in California.

Perez shot a nine-under 63 Thursday during the second round of the tournament, following an even better performance during the first round, where he shot 11 under par. His total over the first two rounds is 124 and Perez is looking for his first PGA tournament victory since he joined the tour in 2002, according to NBC Sports.

The prior record for 36 holes was minus 19--shot by Tom Lehman at the Las Vegas Classic in 2001.

The Bob Hope Classic is being played at the PGA West resort in La Quinta, California. Perez sits atop the leader board halfway through the four round tournament.
