Former MLB pitcher Roy Halladay died when his plane crashed on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, in the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa, Florida. He was 40.

Friends and former teammates took to Twitter on Tuesday to mourn the death of Roy Halladay and share their personal memories of the retired star.

"Heart is broken to hear about Roy Halladay. Great friend, teammate, father and husband," former teammate Roy Oswalt wrote on Twitter. "One of the best teammates ever! You will be missed!"

"Roy Halladay was one of the special people in this world," wrote longtime sportswriter Jayson Stark.
