Seikaly's Spin-Move

Former Heat star's new career has fans doing a double-take

Between the size 16 shoes and 7-foot-frame, it's hard NOT to notice Rony Seikaly, but it's still shocking to see that the DJ towering over the turntables is the former Miami Heat center.

Seikaly's actually been a DJ for almost three years now, but he's been doing it under the radar.

"I made sure that there was no mention about basketball on any of the flyers and invites," said the Heat's first-ever draft pick. "They're just promoting the name Rony Seikaly as a DJ."

Seikaly made a name for himself as the Heat's first "franchise" player in 1988. But he wanted his DJ career to be judged only by his music, which he describes as uplifting, happy house music.

"People that do know basketball look at me and they're like, 'Is it or isn't it?'" said Seikaly. "And then they finally put two and two together and just can't believe it."

Seikaly considers LIV Nightclub in Miami his "home" club. But he also performs all over the world, from Las Vegas, to Paris to Ibiza, where he just performed in front of 7,000 people.

"With music and DJ'ing it's called capturing the moment," Seikaly said. "And once you've captured the moment you know you have the night and it's up to you to go wherever you want with it."

Seikaly just released his first single, "Come With Me," and his album comes out in October. But even though he's already been a star in the sports world, that doesn't mean he can't appreciate his new-found success.

"Back in the day I used to look up to Paul Oakenfold and now I find myself playing with him," explained Seikaly. "It was kind of a surreal moment. I used to buy the guy's CDs and now I'm part of that and people come to see me. It's exciting."
