The Miami Marlins will put back on their regular uniforms and host the San Francisco Giants for four games beginning on Monday.
After a throwback weekend, Miami's regular home whites will be on display for Monday's game. Miami went 1-2 while wearing the old colors of the Florida Marlins and struggled to put together much offense. The Marlins also narrowly avoided being no-hit during Sunday's series finale.
Wei-Yin Chen will need to give the Marlins more innings in his start on Monday. Chen has only gone a combined six innings in his last two outings. The veteran lefty has a 1-3 record to go along with a 5.86 E.R.A in 2018. Chen has also struggled when it has come to home runs this season. In eight starts, Chen has allowed eight home runs.
Trevor Richards is still looking for his first big-league win and he will get another opportunity in Tuesday's game. Richards struggled a bit in his return from the minor leagues last week, but did show solid control. The 25-year had zero walks, though he did allow seven hits in only five innings. Miami will hope for more work from Richards this time around. Due to Chen's issue with efficiency, Miami's bullpen may already be taxed heading into this game.
Caleb Smith added another solid win to his All-Star Game résumé on Friday and next will start Wednesday's game. Smith has a 3.70 E.R.A this season and has become Miami's de facto ace. Not only is Smith an All-Star Game contender, but he is also a possible Rookie of the Year. The lefty has been consistent and has continued to pile up strikeouts. Smith has 79 strikeouts in 65.2 innings thus far.
Dan Straily will start Thursday's series finale and will look to end a trough stretch. The Marlins are 0-3 in Straily's last three starts, while the veteran has been tagged with two of those defeats. Straily has allowed 8 earned runs in his last 13.2 innings and has a 4.08 E.R.A overall this season.
Derek Dietrich has been Miami's hottest hitter as of late, but he hasn't had much help around him. Dietrich is hitting .500 over the past week with two home runs and six runs batted in. Dietrich has lifted his batting average on the season to a solid .287 with the hot hitting.
