Series Preview: Marlins at Mets

The Marlins will wrap up the 2018 season with a three-game series against the Mets

The Miami Marlins will finish off their 2018 schedule with a series against the New York Mets beginning on Friday.

Miami was swept by New York earlier this month and has lost three games in a row. Thanks in part to a rainout, the Marlins will avoid 100 losses this season. At 62-96, the Marlins can lose 99 games at most. Miami has stumbled to the finish line, in what has been a long and tough season for the team.

There have been some bright spots for the Marlins in 2018 and those players will have a few more chances to add to their stats in this series. Brian Anderson will likely fall short of the Rookie of the Year award, but he has posted consistent numbers all season long. Anderson figures to remain a big part of Miami's offense again in 2019.

Jose Urena has had an interesting season, following a year as Miami's de facto ace. After a very successful 2017 campaign, Urena struggled mightily earlier this season. The right-hander has found his groove in September and has vastly improved his overall numbers. Urena is 8-12 with a 4.07 E.R.A. as he heads into the final start of his season on Friday.

Rookie Trevor Richards has set a career-high for innings pitched as a professional this year and he will add to that on Saturday. Richards is coming off one of the best outings of his career. The rookie struck out nine across seven scoreless innings his last time out. Richards is 4-9 with a 4.66 E.R.A. overall in 2018.

Saturday's game will also feature a packed house, as David Wright is set to make a start. The captain of the Mets is expected to hang up his cleats following the game and local fans have bought up tickets in droves. Wright has not played in a Major League Baseball game since 2016, due to a number of injury issues. The third baseman has enjoyed an exceptional career and has always hit well against Miami.

Sandy Alcantara will start for Miami in the season finale on Sunday. The rookie is 2-2 with a 4.00 E.R.A, but is coming off a horrible start against the Washington Nationals. Alcantara allowed six runs in four innings against Washington and has struggled with walks often this season. Alcantara has walked 21 hitters in his 27 innings pitched. The right-hander was one of Miami's biggest acquisitions during the off-season and he is expected to be a big part of the rotation in 2019.

The series is set to begin on Friday at 7:10 p.m.
