Series Preview: Nationals at Marlins

The Marlins will begin their final homestand of the season with a series against the Nationals

The Miami Marlins will host the Washington Nationals for two games beginning on Monday.

The series with Washington will be the beginning of Miami's final homestand of the 2018 season. Miami can still avoid 100 losses this season, but it will need some wins in a hurry. The Marlins are 58-91 with 13 games remaining.

Trevor Richards will start for the Marlins on Monday. The rookie is 3-9 with a 4.85 E.R.A in 2018. Richards has been tagged ten runs over his last 6.1 innings pitched and has dropped consecutive decisions. The right-hander has also seen a reduction in his strikeout totals as of late.

Jeff Brigham is off to an 0-2 start and will get the ball on Tuesday. Brigham pitched better in his second big-league start, but still only lasted 4.1 innings. The 26-year old is trying to make his case for a spot on the 2019 roster and may need to show more. Brigham's 1.91 WHIP is not an encouraging sign thus far.

Lewis Brinson has hit better since his return from the disabled list and he will look to continue that in this series. Brinson is hitting .275 with seven runs batted in this month, after hitting under .200 in his first stint with the Marlins. The rookie has lifted his season average to .199, to go along with a .240 on-base percentage.

Monday's first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 7:10 p.m.
