Miami

Series Preview: Phillies at Marlins

The Marlins will look to win a third straight series when they host the Phillies beginning on Monday

The Miami Marlins will host the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series beginning on Monday.

The Marlins are coming off a second consecutive series victory and have won four of their last five games overall. Miami is now 9-18 on the year and has looked competitive recently. The Marlins have enjoyed excellent starting pitching and will get another big arm back in this series.

Dan Straily is set to make his 2018 debut on Monday night. After beginning the year on the disabled list, the veteran will start for Miami against the Phillies. Straily saw some action in the minor leagues and should not be limited in this start. The right-hander should bring some more consistency to Miami's rotation going forward.

Miami's ace Jarlin Garcia will start in Tuesday's game. Garcia is 1-0 this season, with a sparking 1.00 E.R.A. The lefty has shown no signs of slowing down, with only one total run allowed in his three starts. Garcia struck out seven in his last appearance and went six strong innings.

Jose Urena will try to win his first game of the season in Wednesday's series finale. Urena started on Opening Day for the Marlins and the team has lost every game he's pitched so far this year. Urena pitched well against the Colorado Rockies in his last outing, but ultimately was tagged with the loss. Urena allowed one run in seven inning in the appearance and Miami fell 1-0.

J.T. Realmuto has been Miami's best hitter since coming off the disabled list. The catcher has four home runs and eight runs batted in already and has only played in ten games. Realmuto has also helped Miami's pitching staff since returning to the roster.

Martin Prado returned from the DL during Miami's series with Colorado and has already made an impact. Prado knocked in two runs in his two games played and also has given Miami some solid defense. Miami's de facto captain should continue to hit in the middle of the lineup going forward.

Monday's game will get underway at 7:10 p.m.
