Redskins Probed Over Haynesworth Tampering

A guilty finding could mean the team loses a draft pick.

The NFL is opening an investigation into charges that the Redskins illegally tampered with Albert Haynesworth before signing him, according to Yahoo Sports.

The Titans have been whining about the way they think the deal went down. The report cites sources, saying, "The NFL has interviewed at least two people associated with the situation after the Titans complained to the league in April that the Redskins contacted Haynesworth and agent Chad Speck before the start of free agency on Feb. 27."

Haynesworth's dance card was full within minutes after he reached free agency status. One hour after midnight, he had six offers on the table with $30 million guarantees, ESPN reported.

Washington lured the All-Pro with a $100 million contract for seven years that included an NFL-record $41 million guarantee. He'll make $32 million in the first 13 months with the team.

If the NFL investigation finds the Redskins did talk to Haynesworth before they were supposed to, the team could face losing a draft pick.
