Sputtering Marlins Drop Third Straight

The Marlins lost a third straight game on Saturday and clinched a series loss to Chicago

The Miami Marlins continued to struggle in their 8-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

With their third loss in a row, Miami finds itself looking up in the Wild Card standings. The Marlins had a chance to go up two games on the Cardinals recently, and now instead are a half-game back. Miami is only 3-7 in its last ten and its overall record has slipped to 60-56.

The Marlins were also dealt another potentially big blow on the final play of the game. Giancarlo Stanton limped off the field after trying to stretch a single into a double. Manager Don Mattingly said after the game that it appeared to be groin related, but the extent of the injury was not yet known.

Before finishing on the wrong end of the final score, Miami battled Chicago well. The Marlins were down 4-0 at one time and erased that deficit completely. The Marlins held the lead into the eighth inning, but another bullpen meltdown allowed the White Sox to plate two runs.

Stanton hit his 25th home run of the season early in the game. It was part of a three-hit day for the slugger who also brought home three runs. Martin Prado added his seventh home run of the season during Miami's early comeback. Prado also singled, scored a run and knocked in three more runs.

Six Marlins had multi-hit days including starting pitcher Adam Conley. Dee Gordon, Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto were the other Marlins with more than one hit in the loss.

Conley did well with the bat, but he struggled on the mound. The lefty allowed five runs on five hits in four innings of work. Conley also walked four in a no decision.

Miami will try to end its losing streak on Sunday when it sends Tom Koehler to the mound for the start.
