Stanton Hits 150th Career Home Run in Marlins Win

Giancarlo Stanton continued to make his case for the NL MVP Award with a three-run home run on Monday

The Miami Marlins earned a win on Monday against the best team in baseball with their 7-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Giancarlo Stanton made history during the win with the 150th home run of his career. The majestic shot went deep into the L.A. night and drew gasps from the crowd. It was a three-run home run for Stanton and it put the Marlins up by seven runs at the time.

Prior to his 33th home run of the year, the Angels walked Stanton twice, which has been the norm for the slugger this season. One of the many statistical categories that Stanton currently leads the National League in is walks.

It was a big win for the Marlins who had come off two tough defeats at the hands of the Colorado Rockies. Those losses had pushed Miami back under .500 and cost them chances to move up in the Wild Card standings. This victory did in fact move the Marlins up a game as they now sit only three back of a playoff spot.

Jarred Cosart continued to dazzle as a Marlin with his third straight strong start. The right-hander who was acquired on July 31st gave Miami 7.2 innings of one-run ball. It was the 11th win of the year for Cosart and it lowered his E.R.A. to 3.98.

Thus far in four games for the Marlins, Cosart is 2-1 with a 2.08 E.R.A. and a sparkling 1.000 WHIP.

The Marlins will look to move back over .500 on Tuesday when they send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound.
