Buccaneers Add Orange, Technology to New Uniforms

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers scored the fewest touchdowns in the NFL last season en route to a 4-12 record.

They may or may not be more adept on the field in 2014, but at the very least they're hoping to look better. The team unveiled its new uniform design on Monday -- one that includes more of its trademark old-school orange and a "more menacing" Jolly Roger on the helmet.

The team said the new unis, which were more than two years in the making, pay homage to the team's past, but with a modern design.

Here are some of the highlights:

The base uniform color has a richer pewter color with a brighter "Buccaneer Red" and the aforementioned "Bay Orange" color that harkens back to the early days of the Bucs' franchise.

The team said the new Nike jerseys also include a reflective chrome border around the numbers which is supposed to increase readability and give the numbers a unique glow.

And it's the numbers themselves that have caused quite a stir on social media. The new font is supposed to be "inspired by historical Buccaneer blade carvings." But some see it a bit differently.

While some mocked, others found the new number font somewhat pleasing.

Darren Rovell, of course, has been polling the masses. The results so far:
