USA Women's Volleyball Rolls Over Puerto Rico in Preliminary

Team USA's run at gold got off on the right foot.

The U.S. women's volleyball team endured a stretch of inconsistency before pulling it together and sweeping Puerto Rico in three sets in the preliminary stage Saturday.

The Americans won their first set of the Rio Olympics handedly at 25-17.

The second set proved to be more difficult, as Puerto Rico led 19-17 before U.S. went on a run and ultimately pulled out a 25-22 victory.

After another slow start in the third, the Americans put it all together at the end and finished off a sweep with a 25-17 set win.

The U.S. women's team next plays Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET against a Netherlands squad that just upset China Saturday morning.

The U.S. men's team plays its first game against Canada at 4 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon.
