Benches Clear in Marlins Win Over Cubs

The Marlins beat the Cubs on Wednesday in a game that featured a bench clearing moment

The Miami Marlins came away 7-3 winners in a game against the Chicago Cubs that saw the benches clear on Wednesday.

Junior Lake admired a home run and then made a gesture to the Marlins dugout which was not taken well by Miami. Led by Jose Fernandez, the Marlins shouted at Lake and eventually both benches cleared. No punches were thrown but discipline is possible for Fernandez due to his current status on the disabled list.

Tensions remained high after the incident and manager Dan Jennings let off some steam with his first ever ejection. After a check swing, Jennings came out of the dugout and was thrown out of the game. The rookie skipper would go on to get his money's worth which drew loud cheers from the crowd.

There was plenty of action between the lines as well with Miami exploding for six runs off Jon Lester. The Marlins knocked balls all around the park to chase the Cubs' ace after only five innings on the mound.

In the fifth inning, Giancarlo Stanton (17) and Jeff Baker (2) went back-to-back with home runs. This was the second time in less than a week that the tandem went deep in consecutive at-bats.

Dan Haren picked up another win to move to 6-2 on the season to go along with a 3.18 E.R.A. The current ace of Miami's staff gave up three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.

The Marlins will be off on Thursday before beginning a series on Friday in Colorado. Tom Koehler will get the ball to open the series.
