BoSox Great Dom DiMaggio Dead at 92

Brother of Joe was seven-time All Star

Red Sox great Dom DiMaggio, whose career was overshadowed by older brother Joe despite being a seven-time All Star, died early this morning in his Massachusetts home.

DiMaggio, called the Little Professor because of his spectacles and slight frame, was 92. Perhaps his most noteworthy achievement on the diamond was a 34-game hit streak in 1949, which was not only ended by a spectacular diving catch by his brother, but dwarfed by Joe's record 56-game streak.

DiMaggio was a career .298 hitter whose best season came in 1950, when he batted .328 with a league leading 131 runs scored.

A native of San Francisco, he is survived by his wife, three children and six grandchildren.
