Cardinals Knock Marlins Around

The Cardinals put up 11 runs to beat the Marlins for a second straight day on Friday

The Miami Marlins were unable to stop the St. Louis Cardinals in their 11-6 loss on Friday.

The Cardinals went up 9-1 in the top of the fifth inning, and Miami quickly responded with five runs in the bottom half. That deficit would quickly increase again however when St. Louis added two runs in the sixth frame.

The loss was Miami's second in a row and came against a team it is battling in the Wild-Card race. The Marlins now trail the Cardinals in the standings by a game with two left to play in the series.

Ichiro Suzuki's chase of history will need to wait at least one more day. The veteran went 0-4 and remained two hits shy of 3,000 in his career. Suzuki started in left field in place of Christian Yelich and will likely start at least one of the next two games.

The Marlins hit two home runs with one each coming from Marcell Ozuna (18) and Martin Prado (5).

Jose Urena had a disastrous start in what could have been his last appearance in a Marlins jersey for awhile. Urena allowed eight runs in 4.1 innings and may be the odd man out of the rotation. Three of Urena's runs scored while Mike Dunn was on the mound. The reliever also allowed a run of his own.

In all, the Cardinals had 14 hits while the Marlins managed nine of their own.

Colin Rea will make his Marlins debut on Saturday when he makes the start against the Cardinals.
