Dolphins Release Cortland Finnegan

The Dolphins continued to clean house when they released Cortland Finnegan on Monday

Cortland Finnegan joined the list of recent cuts when the Miami Dolphins released the cornerback on Monday.

In his lone season with the Dolphins, Finnegan took part in 12 games. In that time, the 31-year old tallied zero interceptions for the first time in his career as a CB. For the most part, Finnegan was a non-factor for Miami and the team ultimately decided his salary could be better allocated elsewhere.

By releasing Finnegan, who was on a two-year deal, Miami will save $5.48 million which it may put towards improvements going forward. The veteran had signed the contract last off-season during a series of signings by Miami.

This is the third release of a veteran in less than a week for the Dolphins. Last Friday, Miami sent veteran wide receivers Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson packing in a pair of cuts.

With these three recent releases, Miami now has nearly $18 million in cap space, according to the Miami Herald.

Prior to signing with the Dolphins, Finnegan played with the Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams. Perhaps his best season came in 2008 while with the Titans. In that campaign, Finnegan was named to his one and only Pro Bowl. Finnegan was also First-team All-Pro in that same season.

The Dolphins are likely not done reshaping their roster as the team tries to end a playoff drought that dates back to 2008.
