Duke Johnson Leads UM to Win Over Virginia Tech

Duke Johnson did it on the ground and in the air in Miami's 30-6 win on Thursday

The Miami Hurricanes won their second straight game with a 30-6 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday.

The win come 12 days after the Hurricanes topped Cincinnati at Sun Life Stadium. This one took place on the road and it was the first time the Hurricanes won outside of Miami this year. UM now sits at 5-3 on the year and 2-2 in the ACC.

Duke Johnson had a big day with 249 yards rushing on 29 carries. Among those rushes was a 24-yard dash into the end zone in the second quarter. The junior now has one rushing touchdown in each of Miami's last seven games. Johnson has also picked up at least 100 yards rushing in four consecutive games.

It wasn't just on the ground where Johnson made an impact, the running back also caught a TD pass. The 22-yard reception was part of a 37-yard receiving day for Johnson. It was the first time this year that Johnson took one into the end zone by way of air.

Gus Edwards had himself a good day as well on the ground with plenty of rushing yards to go around. Edwards had 115 yards rushing on 20 carries and also ran two into the end zone. Edwards now has five rushing TDs this year and three in his last two games alone.

The 366 rushing yards picked up by Miami were the most allowed by the Hokies under head coach Frank Beamer according to the Daily Press.

Brad Kaaya had a quieter day throwing for only 92 yards and was 7-16 on his attempts. The quarterback did throw the aforementioned TD pass along the way and now has 17 of those on the season. It was the first time in his time at UM that Kaaya did not eclipse triple digits on passing yards. In fact, his previous low was 174 in the first game of the year.

Miami will return home for a game against North Carolina on October 1st at 12:30 p.m.
