This was a move you could probably sense was coming. Villareal loaned out American striker Jozy Altidore -- who they paid an MLS record transfer fee of around $10 million for last June -- to second division Spanish team Xerez C.D. Xerez, which has never played in the Primera Division, currently leads the Segunda.
The move is obviously directed at Altidore's development since he was riding the pine at Villareal. Altidore's name had been linked with a possible loan to Everton, but it never materialized.
