
The worldwide economic slowdown is obviously going to affect every major sports league in the entire world. It'll be fairly interesting to see what it does to MLS. Like the little engine that could, the league slowly crept out of its financial black hole and inched toward profitability.
Though the league continues to lag behind most other sports, it has actually created quite a stir in the expansion team market, with many cities and investor groups clamoring to get in on the ground floor with the league. Due to the ecomony, some of those cities targeting the next wave of expansion have dropped by the wayside, the latest was Miami's FC Barcelona-backed bid, which pulled out of the process on Tuesday.
