Heat Add Smart and Quinn To Coaching Staff

The Heat made a series of front office additions on Wednesday including two new assistant coaches

The Miami Heat added two new assistant coaches on Wednesday when Keith Smart and Chris Quinn joined the staff.

Smart was last seen as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings in the 2012-13 season. Previous to that, he led the Golden State Warriors for a season and was also an interim head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers at one point.

Most of Smart's coaching career has come as an assistant coach which is what he will be doing in Miami. Prior to taking over head coaching duties with the Kings, he was an assistant for a season there. That followed a long run in Golden State for Smart who was an assistant from 2003-2010 before being named the head coach.

Smart had a brief NBA career as he only appeared in two games as a player, both coming with the San Antonio Spurs during the 1988-89 season. He'd play in various other leagues around the world after his playing career came to a close in the NBA.

Quinn most recently served as director of player development for Northwestern University. He has no coaching experience but does have a history with the Heat. From 2006-2010, Quinn was on Miami's roster. The shooting guard even started 25 games during the 2007-08 campaign.

In addition to being an assistant coach, Quinn will work in player development for Miami which will call upon his recent work in the NCAA.

The Heat also added Brandon Gilliam and Wes Brown as Assistant Trainers. Gillam will hold the title of Director of Rehabilitation as well. Eric Foran rounded out the new additions when he was named Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Miami will open the 2014-15 season on October 29th against the Washington Wizards.
