Heat's Erik Spoelstra Named Coach of the Month

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was named the Eastern Conference coach of the month on Wednesday

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month on Wednesday,

Spoelstra was honored for his team's exceptional play during the month of February. The Heat went 8-3 in the month, which included a 5-2 run on the road. Miami was on a 13-game winning streak during part of the month, which is the longest win streak in the NBA this season.

This is the fourth time in Spoelstra's career that he has taken home the monthly honor, and the first time during the 2016-17 season. Miami began the year as one of the worst teams in the NBA, but is now right in the middle of the playoff race. The Heat are within striking distance of several playoff teams, with the final stretch of the season on the horizon.

With the Heat battling several injuries, Spoelstra's coaching work has come more into focus. The 46-year old has been widely credited with being one of the main reasons for Miami's recent success. Spoelstra has been getting the most out of his players, and has been drawing up plays to close important wins out.

As a franchise, the Heat now have taken home the Coach of the Month award 12 times. Spoelstra ranks second in the list, only trailing team president Pat Riley.

The Heat will be in action on Wednesday evening when they host the Philadelphia 76ers at American Airlines Arena.
