Jameis Winston Under Fire Again at FSU

Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis Winston is once again in the headlines and it’s not for his latest performance on the football field.

According to reports from Deadspin.com and SB Nation, Winston was seen on Florida State's campus jumping on a table and yelling an expletive-laden phrase alluding to a sex act. The specific phrasing came from an Internet meme that saw some people yell it into live microphones during interviews on television.

The entire incident was tweeted by multiple people who witnessed the entire incident Tuesday.

FSU released a statement Wednesday saying WInston would be benched for the first half of the Seminoles' game against Clemson, calling his comments "offensive and vulgar."

"As the university’s most visible ambassadors, student-athletes at Florida State are expected to uphold at all times high standards of integrity and behavior that reflect well upon themselves, their families, coaches, teammates, the Department of Athletics and Florida State University," the school said in a statement. "Student-athletes are expected to act in a way that reflects dignity and respect for others."

The latest incident with Winston comes less than a year after the local state attorney’s office concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to sustain criminal charges against the quarterback when he was accused of sexual assault.

It also comes just months after Winston was caught on video shoplifting crab legs from a Publix grocery store. After admitting to the crab caper, Winston released a statement that read in part: “I realize that I am in the public spotlight and my conduct needs to be above reproach.”

According to Yahoo.com, the FSU athletic department said the topic of Winston’s expletive-lade shout never came up when head coach Jimbo Fisher was meeting with reporters after practice Tuesday.
