Jarrod Saltalamacchia Ready For Reunion With Boston Red Sox on Thursday

The Miami Marlins are set to take on the Boston Red Sox on Thursday and it will be the first time Jarrod Saltalamacchia faces his former team

The Miami Marlins are scheduled to face the Boston Red Sox only one time at home in 2014 and that game will take place on Thursday in Jupiter according to the team's schedule.

Saltalamacchia, who won the World Series while in Boston, will receive a championship ring at some point this year via delivery. That is sure to be a memorable moment for Saltalamacchia who is a first time champion. For now, the Marlins' new backstop is just excited to see his former club and reconnect with them.

"I look forward to seeing them. I went through a lot with those guys. I consider them friends, and look forward to seeing them," Saltalamacchia told MLB.com.

Thus far this spring, Saltalamacchia has not played in back-to-back days which is not unusual. As he had the day off on Wednesday against the New York Mets, it is likely that Saltalamacchia will be in the starting lineup against the Red Sox. The catcher should see at least two at-bats against pitchers he is familiar with and could build on the success he had Tuesday. In that game, Saltalamacchia hit his first homer of the spring and also scored twice.

Finding players like Saltalamacchia with a championship on their resume is important for a young team like Miami. There is one other champion in the everyday lineup for the Marlins, second baseman Rafael Furcal won the 2011 World Series while with the St. Louis Cardinals.
