Kidney Bill Named For Zo

Mourning has State measure named after him

First he had his number retired, now he has a state kidney bill named after him.

Alonzo Mourning worked hard on House Bill 675, which passed through the Florida House today, and now the kidney transplant bill will be named in his honor.

The Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act would give patients greater access to medical insurance coverage, helping patients under 65 with Medicare get Medigap, the second of two coverages needed to get on a waiting list for a kidney.

Mourning, who had his number 33 jersey retired by the Heat in a teary ceremony on March 30, was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2000 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2003.

The bill now goes to the Senate for another vote.
