Luongo Allows Four Goals in Loss

The Panthers lost on Thursday as the Philadelphia Flyers put 4 goals in the net

The Florida Panthers struggled on Thursday and were beaten by the Philadelphia Flyers by a final score of 4-1.

It was the first time this season that Florida lost in regulation on the road. Every previous road loss came during the overtime period or a shootout. The loss dropped the Panthers to 4-3-4 on the season and kept them with 12 points.

This game was a rough one for Roberto Luongo who has enjoyed a pretty decent season overall. The Flyers scored early and never looked back with two goals in each of the first two periods. Luongo ended up saving 26 of 30 chances and this was the second time on the year that the goalie allowed four or more goals.

Florida got its goal during the second period courtesy of Nick Bjugstad and it was his first of the season. The goal came during a power play and was assisted on by Jimmy Hayes and Dmitry Kulikov. In terms of power plays, the Panthers had four chances with this being their lone opportunity to end in a goal. In contrast, the Flyers had two power plays but none of their goals came during those situations.

Florida actually had more shots on goal than Philadelphia did winning the battle 35-30 but Flyers goalie Steve Mason had a strong game. Mason stopped 34 of his 35 chances. Five days ago in Florida, Mason saved 28 or 30 chances in a win for the Panthers.

Sean Bergenheim was scratched with a lower body injury and Jonathan Huberdeau missed the game with the flu. Colby Robak was a healthy scratch for Florida which has been a common thing for the 24-year old this year.

The Panthers will take on the Calgary Flames on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
