The Miami Marlins acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur on Wednesday in a three-team deal.

Francoeur had been playing with the Atlanta Braves and should share time with Ichiro Suzuki in Miami's outfield. The third team in Wednesday's trade was the Texas Rangers. The Marlins will be sending international signing dollars to Texas in the deal.

The need for an extra bat has risen with the losses of Giancarlo Stanton, Justin Bour and Derek Dietrich. Miami has had to use Suzuki on a near everyday basis and the veteran has shown some signs of slowing down. With Francoeur on the team, Suzuki can now slide back into a more part-time role.

In his 12 years in Major League Baseball, Francoeur has been an active traveler. The veteran has played for the Braves, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. Francoeur is known to be an aggressive free-swinger at the plate and he possesses a strong throwing arm in the outfield.

This season Francoeur has amassed a .249 batting average to go along with seven home runs and 33 runs batted in during 99 games played. The 32-year-old is likely going to be in the lineup when Miami takes on left-handed pitchers. Suzuki should see most of his starts against right-handers.

Francoeur should be in Miami for Thursday's game against Kansas City. The Marlins will need to make a corresponding roster move as well.
