Marlins' Bour to Join Stanton in Home Run Derby

Justin Bour will take part in the Home Run Derby at Marlins Park on July 10th

Miami Marlins first baseman Justin Bour will participate in the Home Run Derby at Marlins Park on July 10th.

Bour is the second Marlins player to sign up for the event, with Giancarlo Stanton also set to swing for the fences. While Stanton will be defending his HR Derby title, this will be Bour's first time participating. Bour has the ability to put on a show himself and he should have strong support from the home crowd.

Bour has 18 home runs this season and many of those have been long drives. The slugger smacked 11 homers in May alone, while he was serving as Miami's main power threat. Bour's career-high for home runs in a season is 23 and barring injury, he should set a new mark during the second half of this season.

Stanton set a HR Derby record last year and is likely the favorite going into this year's event as well. Not only did Stanton hit home runs at a fast pace in 2016's event, but he also hit the longest ones. Bour and Stanton could have a competition among themselves, as they try to light up the scoreboard at their own ballpark.

In addition to Bour and Stanton, Miguel Sano, Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Gary Sanchez have committed to the Home Run Derby thus far. Judge has been hitting long home runs for the New York Yankees all season long and has been compared to Stanton in the past.

Bour also has an outside chance of playing in the All-Star Game. While Stanton and Marcell Ozuna are already in, Bour is listed as part of Major League Baseball's "Final Vote" phase. Fans can vote for Bour or any of the other candidates at Marlins.com.

The 2017 Home Run Derby will begin on July 10th at 8:00 p.m.
